List of the Largest Tablets and iPads, Ranked by Screen Area
Last updated on July 28, 2024
If you are looking for large-screen tablets or iPads, it can be quite difficult to find comparisons of the screen areas. As I am constantly running into this issue myself, I had no other solution than to make my own list – and here it is: the list of the largest tablets and iPads, ranked by screen area.
Size of tablets screens: “surface”, “area”, or “surface area”?
These three terms describe related, but distinct concepts. Here is a simplified definition of each of them – mathematicians, be indulgent!
- A surface is a boundary of an object. It defines an outer layer of an object but does not include a measure of size.
- Area refers to the measure of a two-dimensional shape or surface in a plane, expressed in square units (square inches or square centimeters in this article).
- Surface area is the total area that the surface of a three-dimensional object occupies, for example, the sum of the areas of the six faces of a cube.
In this article, I’ll mostly use the word “area”. Although “surface area” is often used interchangeably with “area” when talking about tablet or iPad displays, this is technically not correct. For SEO reasons, I may use the term “surface area” a few times, though.

I am a classical musician (violist) with 20 years of professional experience in orchestra and chamber music. For years, I have been using all kinds of large and very large tablets as part of my work as a musician.
I also have a degree in computer science, and I have always been interested in computer hardware. This article is therefore a summary of the hardware and practical side of using very large tablets.
I spent my school years in France, and this article must be riddled with spelling and grammar mistakes, for which I apologize. Feel free to send me any corrections!
There is no test protocol! I use the most different tablets possible in my real life as a musician, which includes practicing, rehearsing and playing concerts.

The tablets and e-readers are purchased with my own funds and used as long as I please. This means that my tablet reviews are always independent, long term and real life reviews.

The biggest tablets and iPads, ranked by area (surface area)
In the following list, the largest tablets are sorted by the surface of their screen (in square inches). Note that the display aspect ratio has a tremendous impact on the surface of the screen. For example, the 12,9-inch iPad Pro has only a 12,9″ display size in diagonal, but a large surface due to its 4:3 aspect ratio, which is rarely found on Android tablets.

The largest tablets compared to the size of a sheet of paper
There are only three tablets with a screen area comparable to that of a sheet of paper (Letter or ISO A4), and all three run Android.
Even the largest iPad, the 13-inch iPad Pro, has a display area 10% smaller than a sheet of paper.
